About Tatyana

TatyanaOriginally from Moscow Russia, Tatyana now calls Chicago home. Coming from an impoverished nation really developed her sense of creativity. Having gained her desire to draw from her father at an early age Tatyana's interests shifted towards fashion during her teens. Vogue and Cosmopolitan, rare finds in Moscow, fed her fascination and desire. Fingering through the adds Tatyana became intrigued with the world of fashion. With the help of layouts in Vogue, Tatyana became an instant success in her family sewing dresses for her self and her mother with an occasional garment for her younger brother. Upon arriving in the United States Tatyana's interest in computer programming, mathematics and science at Mcalester College quickly transformed into fashion design. Art class after art class made Tatyana realize her true gift and desire. Tatyana served an apprenticeship under ceramicist Victoria Christen. Tatyana's ceramics pieces are mainly functional. She works in stoneware and red clay, using underglazes, overglazes, majolica, and raku. She graduated from college in 1992with an art degree, specializing in ceramics. The following few years Tatyana spent establishing her life and her career. Today Tatyana Shierl is a blossoming artist working from her studio in Chicago. Her artwork carries the remnants of her past in the shapes of her pieces as well as the patterns she so often comes back to in her glazes. Tatyana's unique pieces are practical as well as beautiful.
